Cindy and I went back to Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg Tennessee last week. We drove up through the mountains of North Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, and finally Tennessee. It was a beautiful drive up.

Once we arrived, we spent some time walking around Gatlinburg where the town was decorated for fall.

Of course the Christmas Inn went right on past fall, and straight to Christmas!

We also saw some other interesting sites. We saw a few camels in Tennessee! These were part of the show at the Miracle theatre.

 We found another unique site at the Flying Horse Cafe in Pigeon Forge. Not only do they have some pretty fabulous food, they have their own Carousel inside the restaurant. You can even take a ride for $1 if you want.

All in all we had a nice time relaxing and taking in the sites.

Last weekend Cindy and I went to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. While we were there we went over to the Smoky Mountain National Forest. There’s a nice part of the park there called Cade’s Cove.

There we found an eight mile driving route through a part of the park that had several old farms and churches. While Cade’s Cove is not inhabited by humans anymore, it is home to deer, turkey, and bear. The park service web site said they have several million visitors each year and traffic jams during peak season. We also went to the Dixie Stampede. During the Christmas season, they have a holiday version of their excellent show. If you haven’t been, it’s a nice show and a good time. Oh yeah, they feed you too. The City of McDonough is decorating the square for Christmas today. They have some beautiful flying reindeer this year. The tree is huge and the wreaths on the courthouse are fantastic. Click here for all the pictures.

I went to Heritage Park yesterday. I fully intended to walk the property. They’ve put in two new bridges.  One is a wooden bridge that joins the ball fields with the village. It crosses over a little valley in the woods. The other is a covered bridge that joins the library and an as yet undeveloped part of the lower park. I started walking through the village and I took so many pictures that I ran out of time before I could walk the rest of the park.

There are several old buildings that have been gathered from around Henry county and placed here for exhibition including an old, one room school house and the old McDonough public library. The community garden is fantastic and full of interesting sights.

If you haven’t had a chance to visit the complex lately, you owe it to yourself to check it out. The park is on the corner of Georgia Highway 81 and Lake Dow Road in McDonough.  Here are more pictures.
